Eric Pickles MP visits MSE Hiller Markham Vale…

01 May 2014

The Secretary of State the Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP along with Derbyshire Councillor Anne Western visited MSE Hiller Markham Vale on the 22nd April 2014.

After a tour of the workshops and the various engineering operations undertaken at site they met and chatted with several of the companies young apprentices.

The Secretary of State, who had recently announced a £120 million infrastructure investment plan, appeared keen to hear the apprentices views and experiences of working at MSE Hiller.

Some £14 million of investment has been destined for the Markham Vale site where previously three coal pits stood.

During subsequent meetings Business and Community Leaders explained to the Secretary of State how the funding would help to grow the local economy and ultimately create new employment opportunities.

Eric Pickles commented, "This enterprise zone is a great example of how our economic plan is rebalancing the economy and transforming once dormant industrial sites into job creators once again. Today’s cash injection will help the enterprise zone pull in over 3 times as much in private sector investment, giving it the essential foundations to grow, create jobs for local people and continue the area’s proud manufacturing tradition."

MSE Hiller were proud to play host to such a high profile visit.
